The first visit to Smilia

A child’s first dental visit is best when the first teeth appear, usually by the first birthday. While a parent fills in the form, the child plays in the play area and gets used to the clinic.

Then the dentist invites the family into the treatment room. The parent stays close the whole time. The dentist shows the child the chair and the instruments, checks the teeth and gums, and talks to the parent about diet and brushing.

At the end of the visit every child picks a sticker or a small gift.

What to bring

  • The child’s PESEL number
  • X-rays and medical records, if any
  • Allergy details
  • A favourite toy

How to prepare a child

Before the visit, it helps to explain calmly where the child is going and why the dentist looks at teeth. A child’s questions deserve honest answers, and fear should be taken seriously. It is worth reminding the child that a parent will be close by. The best time for the visit is when the child is rested and in no hurry.
