Pediatric orthodontics

A bite forms in childhood, so an orthodontist follows a child while the jaws grow and the teeth change. At the consultation the orthodontist assesses the bite, shows the parents the X-rays and says whether treatment is needed now or monitoring is enough. Treatment is chosen by age and goals, and the time and cost are given after diagnosis.

When to show a child to an orthodontist

  • Teeth are growing crowded or with large gaps
  • Baby teeth fell out early or aren't falling out on time
  • The lower jaw sticks out or the upper teeth stick forward
  • The child breathes through the mouth, sucks a thumb or uses a dummy for long
  • The teeth don't meet when the mouth is closed

How treatment goes

  1. Consultation

The orthodontist examines the teeth and bite, asks about the child's habits and orders X-rays if needed.

  2. Treatment plan

The orthodontist explains the results to the parents, offers options and gives the time and cost.

  3. Treatment

The child wears the appliance as advised and comes for check-ups.

  4. Monitoring

After treatment the orthodontist follows the result so that the bite stays stable.

Types of treatment and prices

  • Orthodontic consultation

For a first examination and a decision on treatment

The orthodontist assesses the bite, jaw growth and the changing of teeth and explains the result on the X-rays. If treatment can wait, the next check-up date is given.

    • Helps to understand whether treatment is needed now
    • Gives parents a plan of action
    • Doesn't commit anyone to start treatment

    from 200 zł

  • Plate

When the growth of a child's jaws needs guiding

A removable appliance helps widen the jaws and position the teeth while the child grows. The plate is made from an X-ray and worn on the schedule the orthodontist sets.

    • Works with jaw growth
    • Removable, so it can be cleaned separately
    • Suits children with a mixed bite

    from 1200 zł

  • Aligners

When permanent teeth need aligning discreetly

Clear removable trays move the teeth step by step. The set is ordered from a digital scan, and the trays are changed on a schedule.

    • Barely visible and comfortable
    • Teeth can be brushed as usual
    • Treatment is planned in advance

    from 6000 zł

Questions about children's orthodontics

About age, treatment time and getting used to an appliance.

At what age should a child see an orthodontist?

A first visit to an orthodontist is useful at 6 to 7 years, when the bite starts to change. If parents notice a problem earlier, a consultation can be had straight away.

Is treatment always needed?

No. If the bite develops normally, the orthodontist advises monitoring only and a follow-up check, for example in six months.

Does wearing a plate or aligners hurt?

The first days can feel unusual and slightly tight. This usually passes, and the orthodontist explains how to get used to it.

How long does treatment take?

It depends on the goal and age: from a few months to a few years. The time is given after diagnosis.

Can a bite be treated while the teeth are changing?

Yes, it is a good time: growing jaws respond to correction more easily. The orthodontist will say when to start.

Do teeth need to be removed during treatment?

Not always. It depends on the space in the jaw and the goals of treatment, and the orthodontist explains it at the consultation.

How to care for a plate and aligners?

A plate and aligners are taken out and cleaned separately, and the teeth are brushed as usual. The orthodontist shows how to do it.
